Prince Gyasi
Lives & Works in Accra, Ghana
Prince Gyasi is a visual storyteller who aims to represent his community and generation through his work. He shot his first photographs on an iPhone in order to break artistic conventions and defy the elitism that he believes exists in the art world. Gyasi’s works feature block colours and vibrant contrasts through which he aims to represent the unique way he experiences the world due to his synesthesia, a condition that leads to a constant overlap between the senses, particularly sound and vision.

Often using the street kids of his home of Jamestown as his subjects, Gyasi captures the vivid details of a Black experience, challenging traditional beauty standards and showcasing the energy of their generation. Gyasi considers his work ‘therapy through colours' and believes the presence of colour can have a positive impact on mental health.

His work is included in many prominent art collections in the world.

Prince Gyasi will be presented by MAĀT Gallery.
