Olivia Mary Nantongo
Lives & Works in Kampala, Uganda
Olivia Mary Nantongo is a multimedia artist who attained a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts at Makerere University, Kampala. Nantongo’s art practice centres around photography and painting where women from across the continent and their identities remain the sole focus.

Nantongo spans various media to elaborate the resistance of African women, emphasising unapologetic pride that is embedded in their identity and day-to-day appearance. Her conceptual photos mostly revolve around her mental health and she uses them to explore different meanings of life as an African woman today. Besides photography and painting, Nantongo’s art practice extends into other forms of expression and that is music, performance, poetry and fashion.

Nantogo has participated in various notable events and workshops such as the Kampala Art Biennale, Silhouette Projects by Afriart Gallery and different workshops at Ugandan Art Trust’s 32° East, to mention a few. Her work has featured in multiple local exhibitions and several international group shows within Eastern Africa, Europe, and Israel. Nantongo is a member of Muumba Collective Uganda.

Olivia Mary Nantongo will be presented by Amasaka Gallery.
