Austin Uzor
Lives & Works in Austin, Texas, USA
Austin Uzor’s paintings explore the theme of human displacement and what he describes as “the idea of having a home while feeling homeless”. Uzor’s work is deeply personal and engages with his own experiences of migration to the United States of America in 2016 at the age of 25. Uzor works across different mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and installations. Part abstract and part figurative, his compositions transport audiences to a universe filled with symbolism, religion, and spirituality. The atmospheric scenery and colour language, the use of architectural structures, forms, and recurring figures in unrecognisable spaces, reveal the therapeutic and introspective aspects of his practice.

In 2013, Uzor received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting from Nsukka University, Nigeria. In 2021, he graduated from the University of North Texas with a Master of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting.

Austin Uzor will be presented by Maāt Gallery.
