Temandrota
Lives & Works in Antananarivo, Madagascar
Multimedia artist Temandrota, whose official name is Randriahasandratra Razafimandimby, explores his ancestor’s oral narratives, craftsmanship, and relationships to the sea. He is Tandroy, a nomadic people from Southern Madagascar. Temandrota uses art as a way of transmitting the Tandroy’s cosmogonies, and to make sense of them in light of the ecological and climate crisis in which Madagascar, and the wider world, is engulfed. Making use of reclaimed materials, his favourite being reclaimed paper, as well as natural substances such as resins, pigments, fibres, and earth, Temandrota produces haptic abstract wall works and narrative sculptures and installations. 1-54 London 2023 will be the first time Temandrota's work is shown in the UK. He has exhibited extensively in Madagascar where he received the local Art prize Paritana in 2017. Temandrota was invited to stay twice, in 2017 and 2022, at the prestigious Cite des Arts Residency in Paris where his work was included in a group show at Musee du Quai Branly and where he presented a solo show at Foundation H.
Temandrota will be presented by 50 Golborne.
