Hazel Mphande
Lives & Works in Pretoria, South Africa
Hazel Mphande, also known as Hazey Jane, uses her photography to capture the essence of the human body and identity, and explore abstract representations of nature. Employing techniques such as long shutter speeds and double exposure, she skillfully utilises blur to reflect the transient nature of experiences and recollection during moments of change. Mphande enrolled in The Market Photo Workshop, completing foundational and intermediate courses in 2014. Continuing her professional development, in 2021 she pursued an advanced photography course with Through the Lens Collective in Johannesburg. Mphande’s photographs have been showcased in various group exhibitions at Berman Contemporary between 2021 and 2023. Her works were also exhibited at 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London in 2022. In 2023, Hazel received further recognition as she was selected to participate in the New York Portfolio presented by the New York Times photo department. Hazel Mphande will be presented by Berman Contemporary.
