Lives & Works in Leipzig, Germany
Nabil El Makhloufi graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig, a German city renowned for its famous school of figurative painting, the Neue Leipziger Schule.
Nabil El Makhloufi’s work challenges audiences to carry out self reflection as it tackles issues of belonging and communitarianism. Through his work, he explores how the relationship between the individual and the group plays out in the Arab world. Naturally, his status as a member of the diaspora also plays an important role in his art. As such, migration is a key theme. He covers, not only the recent and widely publicised difficulties experienced by refugees, but also investigates older migration patterns that go back to several generations.
Nabil El Makhloufi will be presented by L’Atelier 21 Gallery.
