Yadichinma Ukoha-Kalu

Yadichinma Ukoha-Kalu is a self-taught experimental artist and illustrator based in Lagos. Her artistic practice revolves around the exploration of line, form, space, and boundaries, expressed through painting, drawing, sculpture, film, and digital platforms. She continually develops multidimensional environments that merge abstract elements, textures, and materials, creating dynamic interactions in her work.  With a career spanning several years, Ukoha-Kalu has engaged in fruitful collaborations with local and international artists and venues. Her first solo exhibition took place at A Whitespace Creative Agency in Lagos and was titled BIG 60, Crossing Borders (2013). Her first group show took place four years later at Stevenson Gallery, Cape Town. In 2018, Ukoha-Kalu received a prestigious commission from the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) in Cape Town, where her work was featured as an essential component of the Grow Box project. She was also nominated for the Orisha Prize, Galerie Apartment, Paris (2017) and the Swiss Vontobel Contemporary Photography Prize - A New Gaze (2018). Yadichinma Ukoha-Kalu will be presented by Galerie Atiss Dakar.
