Cássio Markowski
Lives & Works in Lisbon, Portugal.
Cássio Markowski completed a BA in Visual Arts at the Arts Center of the University of Santa Catarina State, Brazil, in 2007. He also completed an MA in Research and Creation, 2011, and in Performing Arts and Sciences, 2010, at the University of the Basque Country, Spain. Focused on cultural identity and lost traditions, Markowski accentuates fragile connections between the past and present in Afro-Brazilian history. This is achieved with a visual universe that is simultaneously auto-biographic and fictional, political and poetic, all the while being a fusion of personal memories, collective experiences and trauma. Multi-layered images, evoking fauna, flora, history, and inner visions, offer a fresh perspective on humanity's relationship with nature, enhancing aesthetic, spiritual, and universal values. Markowski mainly works across drawing, painting, video and installation.  Solo exhibitions include The Night Doesn't Fall Asleep in Women's Eyes, AKAA Fair, Paris (2023) and There Was a Time When I Could Be Anything, THIS IS NOT A WHITE CUBE, 2022-23, whilst group shows include (IM)MATERIALITY, Águeda's Arts Center and Not a Museum, Portugal, 2022-23.   Cássio Markowski will be presented by THIS IS NOT A WHITE CUBE.
