Rachid Bouhamidi
Lives & Works in Los Angeles, USA
Rachid Bouhamidi was born to a French mother and a Moroccan father in Palm Springs in 1981 and raised in Southern California. He received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2006 and his MFA from Boston University in 2010. Bouhamidi’s work is heavy on vibrant colours as well as on repetitions of pattern-like bodies and exotic plant forms. His eye-catching work sometimes juxtaposes portraits in interesting angular ways while also recalling colours and motifs from his multifaceted perspective that is grounded in Moroccan, French, American, and global culture. He states, “In my recent work, I've been interested in the notion of myth making and memorialising, addressing subjects such as the Covid-19 quarantine and the ongoing struggle for social and racial justice with various formal/pictorial means.” Bouhamidi's work has been presented in several exhibitions in Europe and the United States and is part of several national and international private collections. He recently presented a solo exhibition entitled Heartland at Katherine Bernhardt’s gallery, Dragon Crab and Turtle in St. Louis, Missouri. Rachid Bouhamidi will be presented by Galerie SINIYA28.
