Jean-Marc Hunt
Lives & Works in Baie-Mahault, Guadeloupe.
Son of a Guadeloupean father and Reunion Islander mother, Jean-Marc Hunt was born in Strasbourg. He grew up in the suburbs, where he got his start in the world of graffiti. He has been living in Guadeloupe for the past fifteen years, where his work can be described as neo-expressionist. Painter and visual artist, he proceeds by series, accumulation and diversion. When he settled in Guadeloupe, he developed a figurative painting where the act of covering, blurring and preserving colours became characteristic. With a worn black line, he draws expressive and tormented figures to the point of deforming the bodies. This can be seen in his series  ‘Jardin Creoles’- Creole gardens - representing the union of his own worlds. He paints the street, the traditions but also the stigmata of nature, witness of west indians condition from slavery to nowadays. Solo shows include Ti'Punch Molotov, 193 Gallery, Paris (2021); En chaîne & en or, Galerie L'art s'en mêle, Le Gosier (2020); State of colour, Alliance Française, San Francisco (2018); Negropolis, Fondation Clément, Martinique (2015) and Negropiltan traffic, espace d'art contemporain 14°N 61°W gallery, Martinique (2014).  Jean-Marc Hunt will be presented by 193 Gallery.
