Lives & Works in Paris, France; London, UK; Dakar, Senegal
Amy Sarr is a Senegalese photographer who divides her time between Dakar, London, Paris and New York. She photographs on film, which she then scans and manipulates for digital printing. Her work focuses on cultural identity and the ambiguity that can arise from studying it. Sarr developed the series "Awaken, My Love" to explore the question of maintaining one's identity in the context of immigration. Produced during Eid El-Fitr, she photographed her own cousins to show the importance of family during this celebration and the preservation of traditions. Growing up between Africa, North America and Europe, she interrogates themes that have affected her throughout her life, such as collective memory, tradition, the role of women and migration. Playing with light, colour, texture and reflections, she highlights neglected details, from an emotional approach to purely aesthetic research.  Amy Sarr will be presented by M CONCEPT Gallery.
