Rita Alaoui
Lives & Works in Paris, France
Rita Alaoui is a French-Moroccan artist who graduated from Penninghen, Paris in 1991 and the Parsons School of Design New York in 1996. Fascinated by the force of nature, Alaoui directs her approach on the incessant representation of a dreamlike and sacred nature. Initially a painter, Alaoui has since varied her modes of creation, ranging from painting to drawing, photography, installation, video-performance and the creation of artists' books. Her paintings explore the details of natural and apparently ordinary objects, which she collects, and stages in pictorial works that forcibly recompose spaces and relationships between them. She ultimately composes spaces where she confronts objects or furniture within a domesticated natural environment. Alaoui's work has been exhibited in numerous international exhibitions, most recently The Silent Garden, Galerie SINIYA28, Casablanca (2023) and Lawsonia Cataplasm Garden at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature, Paris (2023) which will then be moving to the Fondation EDF (2024). In 2024, her work will also be in My Grandmother's Garden, Center Tignous d'Art Contemporain, Montreuil (2024). Rita Alaoui will be presented by Galerie SINIYA28.
