1-54 is the first and only international art fair dedicated to contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora.
With three editions per year, in London, New York, and Marrakech, and a pop-up fair in Paris, the name of the fair, 1-54, draws reference to the fifty-four countries that constitute the African continent.
1-54, founded by Touria El Glaoui, has held annual editions in London since 2013, New York since 2015, and Marrakech since 2018. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, 1-54 spearheaded the ascent of contemporary African art on the international art market and became a leading voice.
For each edition, 1-54 develops a unique VIP programme. This year to celebrate 1-54’s 10th anniversary, exclusive and memorable events will be hosted before and during each fair. 1-54 will work in close collaboration with key players in the market to deliver a unique programme in the different locations.
1-54 FORUM, the fair’s programme of educational talks and performances, will gather a rising generation of cultural entrepreneurs and producers. In the past, speakers included: Koyo Kouoh (director at Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa), Osinachi (artist), Tinie Tempah (rapper), Tamer El Said (film director), Hoor Al Qasimi (president at Sharjah Art Foundation), Hope Masike (musician), among others.
In addition, 1-54 has a membership programme specially designed for art lovers and corporations looking to gain deeper insight into developing the diverse art scenes and art market related to contemporary African and diasporan art. 1-54 Friends is a dynamic membership scheme focused on contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora that offers opportunities to get involved in exclusively curated events with like-minded individuals and in the company of specialists and artists.
