Januario Jano
Born 1979 in Luanda, Angola
Lives and works between Luanda, Angola; London, United Kingdom; and Lisbon, Portugal
Januario Jano is a multidisciplinary artist whose research comprises painting, textile, performance, sound installation, video, and photography, allowing him to develop relevant bodies of work and work rituals. The chosen media allows Jano to create his own visual vocabulary: material defines the outcome of his work, in an aesthetic or narrative manner. The body also plays a pivotal role in his work, linking the past and present. Living and working between Luanda, London, and Lisbon is significant for Jano, as Luanda is his mother country and provides him with the narratives to explore physical, emotional, and rational connections. London and Lisbon feed him with different ideas and inspirations, and give him the determination to get things done.
