October Gallery opened in Bloomsbury, London, in 1979 and quickly established itself as a pioneer in showcasing contemporary art from around the world. The gallery is especially well known for showing contemporary art from Africa and has been instrumental in bringing to international attention many of Africa’s leading artists, including El Anatsui, Romuald Hazoumè, Nnenna Okore and Rachid Koraïchi.
October Gallery presents 6-8 exhibitions per year and collaborates with many different institutions on loans, exhibitions and catalogues. Such collaborations have been with V&A, London; British Museum, London; Museum for Art and Design, New York; 3rd Moscow Biennial, Moscow; the Busan Biennale, Busan; the Royal Academy of Arts, London; the Marrakech Biennale 6, Marrakech and the Zeitz MOCAA, Cape Town.
In its over forty years of existence, October Gallery has continuously provided an innovative platform for contemporary artists, presenting works which are provocative, riveting and continuously fuelling current art discourse.
