Founded in 1996 by the designer Aïssa Dione, Galerie Atiss Dakar has gained a reputation for spotting and incubating artistic talent from West Africa most often presenting them for the first time to an international audience at events such as The Dakar Biennale, or Dak’Art – Biennale de l’Art Africain Contemporain, Art Paris, Art Dubai, or the Cairo Biennale to only name a few.
Galerie Atiss Dakar has worked with Serigne Mbaye Camara, Camara Gueye and artists from further afield in West Africa such as Jems Robert Koko Bi, Sokey Edorh and others who have gone on to achieve international acclaim. In 2020, Galerie Atiss Dakar is moving from its emblematic site of Mermoz to settle on the Corniche Ouest in the lively Medina district. The new space, which spans four levels, now allows the gallery to present exhibitions.
