Takele is a bold colourist, building up faceted figurative bodies through the application of near abstract flat forms. With a sharp understanding of the power adjacent colours impart upon one another, her figures appear on the canvas with vivid dimensionality. She explores her cultural heritage, illustrating the everyday life of the Israeli-Ethiopian community and finding inspiration in old Ethiopian sagas and folk tales remembered from her youth. Painting from a young age, Takele first studied the works of artists like Peter Paul Rubens, Diego Rivera and David Hockney. She then studied at Shenkar College of Engineering and Design, School of Multidisciplinary Art, Ramat Gan. Her works are included in prestigious public and private collections. Winner of the 2017 Sotheby’s ‘Under the Hammer’ prize, her work has been shown in numerous exhibitions including a group exhibitions at the Haifa Museum of Art, Haifa (2017) and The Negev Museum of Art, Be’er Sheva (2016). Takele will have a solo show at Addis Fine Art in November 2019.
