Born in 1987 in Casablanca, Morocco. Lives and works in Casablanca and Paris, France

'Qods #3', 2014. Digital print on William Turner paper, edition of 5 + 1 A.P. 24 x 36 cm / 9.45 x 14.17 in. Courtesy of the artist and VOICE gallery

Rim Battal is a journalist, poet and artist, as the later, she is known for her chromatic photographic works. She studied journalism and photojournalism at ISIC Institut Supérieur de l’Information et de la Communication in Rabat, Morocco, before focusing on photography as a means of best materialising her combined interests of literature and poetry into visual form. Most recently Battal has embraced video within her practice.

Her works have been exhibited at Quotidien(s), the 14th Salon National d’Art Photographique in Rabat, in 2010; and Musée Mohammed VI d’art moderne et contemporainin in Rabat, in 2014-2015, among others. Presented at VOICE gallery in Marrakech, Morocco in 2015, her solo exhibition No man’s land, featuring drawings on paper, wall drawings and photographic portraits, sought to project the viewer into a ‘land of remorse’ to consider the relations between the topology of the female body and colonial geographies. Selections of her poetry have also been published; LansKine editions produced twenty poems and dust by Rim Battal in March 2015.
