Amaryllis DeJesus Moleski, Creature of the Grey Lagoon, 2020, Gouache, acrylic, airbrush and color pencil on paper, 182.8 x 91.4 cm, 72 x 36 inches, Courtesy Luce Gallery

Amaryllis DeJesus Moleski is a multidisciplinary artist whose work presents a dream sequence of utopic futuristic fantasies triggered by the present. Through drawing, video, performance, and installation, her practice locates in-between spaces and tends to those that know the trouble and pleasure of liminality. Moleski is specifically concerned with the futuristic femme myth as it applies to queer and of colour communities, and seeks to build a visual utopia filled with curvaceous bodies, dolled-up fashion and flattened patterns. Having spent her formative years travelling and moving from one place to the next, Moleski is curious about multiplicity, belief systems, and bewilderment. She is interested in unearthing what it means to navigate through identities as a racialized, liminal individual, and how to keep afloat in a sea of culturally imposed categories.

Moleski received her BFA from California College of the Arts, San Francisco in 2014, followed by her MFA from the Yale School of Art in 2019. Her exhibitions include: Fragmented Bodies, Albertz Benda, New York (2020); Nobody Promised You Tomorrow, Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn (2019); Again, Always, Yale School of Art, New Haven (2019); Medusa With The Head, 263 Bowery, New York (2018); and Sovereign, The Foundations Gallery, New Orleans amongst multiple others.
