Cristiano Mangovo works with painting, sculpture, installation and performance, most often taking inspiration from daily urban life. His work calls our societies inequities and injustices, appealing for change.
As a child, Cristiano Mangovo immigrated to Democratic Republic of Congo, living there as a refugee, finding his vocation and graduating from the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Kinshasa. His first solo exhibition was held in 2013 at the Art and Culture Foundation in Luanda. In 2014, he won the Mirella Antognoli Argelá Award for Painting and Sculpture from the Italian Embassy and the Angolan ENSA Art prize from Alliance Française in Luanda which led him to participate in an artist-in-residence programme at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. Following this he exhibited at the Angolan Pavilion at Expo Milano 2015. Since, he then he has participated in numerous group and solo shows in Portugal, France, Italy, South Africa, DRC and the US, amongst others.
