Jim Chuchu is a visual artist, filmmaker and musician. He is also Co-Founder and Creative Director of the NEST, a multidisciplinary art space in Nairobi, and a member of the NEST Collective. Chuchu’s directional debut, the short film Homecoming, premiered at the Durban International Film in Durban, South Africa in 2013; and has since toured other significant film festivals including the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada in 2013; and the International Film Festival Rotterdam in the Netherlands in 2014.

Chuchu’s feature film Stories of Our Lives (2014), pertaining to the harsh realities of LGBTQ life in Kenya, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2014. It was later selected for screening at, among others, the BFI Flare: London LGBT Film Festival in London, the UK in 2015; and Berlinale 2015: the 65th Berlin International Film Festival in Berlin, Germany, where it was awarded with the Teddy Award – Special Jury Award 2015. His photographic works were included in the itinerant Making Africa: A Continent of Contemporary Design (across 2015–2016 at Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein in Germany in 2015; Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in Spain; and Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) in Spain).
