Jean-Claude Moschetti

Born in 1967 in Antibes, France. Lives and works in Bain-de-Bretagne, France, and Porto-Novo, Benin

Jean-Claude Moschetti, Bagataï 03, 2015, Fine Art Baryta Print, edition of 7 40 x 88 cm / 15.75 x 64.5 in, Courtesy of Mariane Ibrahim Gallery

After his studies in Brussels, Belgium, Jean-Claude Moschetti started working in the film industry as a camera operator and, since 1995, has worked as an independent press photographer. His photographs have been featured in the international press such as Le Figaro, Le Monde, Courrier International and Corriere della Sera. Moschetti has travelled extensively throughout Western Africa, and engaged in reportages on subjects such as the African oil industry and the battle against imitation drugs. He is also a voodoo initiate from the Egungun cult in Benin. Moschetti upholds that the principle motivation behind his photographic practice is to reveal the mysteries of the occult that exist within the quotidian.

His photographs were included in AFRICA: Architecture, Culture and Identity at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2015 and the itinerant Disguise: Masks and Global African Art (exhibited in the US across 2015–2016 at Seattle Art Museum; the Fowler Museum (UCLA) in Los Angeles; and the Brooklyn Museum in New York, through September 2016).
