Lives and works Marrakech, Morocco

Eric van Hove, Caterpillar 428B Drivetrain Differential and Bevel Gear Group, 2015, Camel bone, yellow copper, tin, nickeled silver, lemon wood, walnut wood, resin, paint, recycled aluminum, sand-casted brass, wood glue, 58 x 34 cm. Courtesy Richard Taittinger Gallery

Eric van Hove explores local and global questions in his work, seeking a cross-cultural position on sociological, political and ecological issues. Wanderlust, defamiliarisation, and psychogeography themes are present in his practice through a range of media and art forms, including installation, performance, video, photography, sculpture and writing. Since 2012, Eric van Hove has been collaborating with Moroccan craftsmen to produce exact replicas of engine parts and fully functioning electric motorbikes, using materials native to the country. His works are a dialogue with modern industrialisation, as well as a metaphor for human interdependence. Eric van Hove is currently having a retrospective, Eric van Hove: Fenduq, at the Fries Museum, Leeuwarden, through 2020. Other recent exhibitions include Ethics in a World of Strangers (2017), Richard Taittinger Gallery, New York; The Art of Craft (2016), Hood Museum of Arts, Hanover; Atchilihtallah – On the Transformation of Art, Craft and Product, Mu.ZEE, Oostende; Atchilihtallah – On the Transformation of Things, Frankfurter Kunstverein, Frankfurt (2016–17).
