Not far from free figuration, Slimen El Kamel questions the relationship between the real and the imaginary. Images of memory and representation of reality taken from everyday media of communication intersect in pictorial fields where the rustling of an endless dialogue begins. Through figurative, symbolic, and abstract forms El Kamel does not try to describe facts but to depict a festival of narratives.
El Kamel holds a master’s in painting and a PhD from the Institut Supérieur des Beaux-Arts de Tunis. His work has been exhibited in internationally renowned institutions and he has a solo show scheduled for 2021 at the Institut du Monde Arabe, Paris. His work is included in several collections including, among others, Fondation Blachère, Apt; Museum of African Contemporary Art Al Maaden (MACAAL), Marrakech; Kamel Lazaar Foundation, Tunis and Fondation Gandur pour l’Art, Geneva.
