Mónica de Miranda Hotel Globo, 2016, Inkjet print, 50 x 75 cm / 20 x 30 in, Edition of 6, Courtesy Tyburn Gallery

Working in photography, mixed media and video, Mónica de Miranda deals with themes of geography and identity, expressing quiet visions of personal history, and exploring the poetics of belonging. She received her PhD in Visual Art from the University of Middlesex (2014), having previously studied at UCL Institute of Education and Camberwell College of Arts, London. A researcher as well as an artist, she is the founder of the Project Hangar at the Centre of Artistic Research in Lisbon, and helped found the Triangle Network, an artistic residency project. In 2016, she was nominated for the Novo Banco Photo Prize and shortlisted for the Prix Pictet Photo Award. Her work has been included in numerous exhibitions, including Dak’Art – Biennale de l’Art Africain Contemporain, Dakar (2016); Rencontres de Bamako – Biennale of African Photography (2015); and the Biennale di Venezia – 14th International Architecture Exhibition (2014). Recent exhibitions include Le jour qui vient, Galerie des Galeries, Galeries Lafayette, Paris (2017). De Miranda’s first solo exhibition at Tyburn Gallery, London opens later this month.
