Cheikh Ndiaye’s world yields the origins of his research: the street and “the informal”. More than a socio-economic survival practice, these terms provide a scaffold for Ndiaye’s artistic practice: an everyday Duchampian de-familiarization. Ndiaye’s work has been exhibited widely, including at Centre Pompidou, Paris (2016); Fondation Blachère, Apt (2016); and Dak’Art – Biennale de l’Art Africain Contemporain, Dakar (2016, 2012). Ndiaye’s installation Blancheur rigide dérisoire en opposition au ciel was selected for the 56th International Art Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia, Italy (2015). Solo exhibitions include Faire de la rue un salon d’extérieur (from the street to an outdoor living room), Galerie Cécile Fakhoury, Abidjan (2016). Centre Pompidou and Kadist Art Foundation, Paris both hold works by Ndiaye in their collections.
