Daoud Aoulad-Syad’s film and photographic works reflect the artist’s dedication to popular culture, changing social circumstances and collective memory. His introduction to cinema occurred in 1989 at a film workshop in Paris where the artist directed two short films, K ricature and Paris, 13 July. Shortly after, Aoulad-Syad directed Mémoire Ocre (1991), Entre l’absence et l’oubli (1993) and Al Oued (1995). In 1998, he directed his first feature film, Adieu forain, followed by Cheval de vent (2001), Tarfaya (2003), En attendant Pasolini (2007), La Mosquée (2010), and Les Voix du Désert (2017).
His photographic work has been featured in numerous exhibitions such as: Photomed, in Sanary-sur-Mer, France (2013); Daba Maroc-Bruxelles, Belgium (2012); Mois de la photo de Bienne, Switzerland (1998). His works have also been shown at Museum Voor Volkenkunde, Rotterdam, Netherlands (1996); Musée d’Aquitaine, ARPA, Bordeaux, France (1991); and Institut du monde arabe, Paris, France (1990). More recently, his work was displayed at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris.
Daoud Aoulad-Syad has also published three books on photography: Marocains, with a preface by Abdelkebir Khatibi (1989), Boujaâd, Espace et mémoire (1999), Territoires de l’instant, with Ahmed Bouanani (2000) and Livre exposition de la Maison Européenne de la Photographie (2015).
