Yashua Klos’ multifaceted works are steeped in memory and biography, filtered through the lenses of mythical Blackness and masculinity. Working against his audience’s prejudices, Klos consciously engages in strategies of resistance, using scale, form, and subject matter to question notions of the centre and periphery within contemporary culture. Klos has been included in exhibitions at the Weatherspoon Art Museum in Greensboro, the US; the Hunterdon Art Museum in Clinton, the US; the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago; and the Abrons Arts Center in New York, the US. Recent solo exhibitions include How to Hide in the Wind at PAPILLION in Los Angeles, the US in 2016; and As Below, So Above in 2015 and We Come Undone in 2013, both at the Tilton Gallery in New York, the US. Klos’ work is held in several private collections. He has been awarded various fellowships and residencies in the US: at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Skowhegan; at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson; and the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha.
