Lives and works in Tunis, Tunisia
Nabil Saouabi creates drawings, paintings and engravings of imaginary worlds in which a central character constantly emerges, assuming the role of the artist. The imaginary worlds oscillate between an external and internal (the artist’s studio) mise en scène. Inspired by narrative figuration, his work explores iconic political imagery and events through satirical stagings. His pictorial approach reveals an urgency associated with his critique of Tunisian society post-revolution. Saouabi participated in exhibitions in Tunisia and abroad, including Dak'art – Biennale de l’Art Africain Contemporain, Dakar; the 5th International Biennial of Engraving of Île de France, and biennales in Alexandria, Egypt and Beijing.
