George Osodi joined the Associated Press News Agency Lagos after they published some of his photographs depicting an explosion of munitions in Lagos in 2002. He worked there until 2008, and during his tenure was awarded first prize for the Fujifilm African Photojournalist of the Year Award (2004). Osodi works in color and combines critical reportage with artistic documentary photography. He is primarily concerned with the social, economic and ecological exploitation of man and nature in the Niger Delta and other parts of the continent. George Osodi exhibited in DOCUMENTA 12 (2007) and other exhibitions include Nigerian Monarchs, Bermondsey Projects, London (2013) and Oil Rich Nigerem>, Delta, RAW Material Company, Dakar (2011). Showing in New York will be works from the Ghana Gold De Money series where Osodi chronicles Galamsey youth who illegally mine the soil of Obuasi, Ghana.
