Nidhal Chamekh
Born in 1985 in Dahmani, Tunisia. Lives and works in Tunis, Tunisia and Paris, France
Nidhal Chamekh is a visual artist, painter and researcher. He began exhibiting his work at the young age of twelve, in Tunisia; his adolescent years provided much contemplation he would later come to evoke within his artworks for many years. Traversing and contaminating the demarcations of sculpture, installation, collage, drawing and painting, his practice at large may be likened to wielding an archaeological device, used to navigate the socio-cultural complexity and chaos of historical images. Chamekh studied at Institut Supérieur des Beaux Arts de Tunis (ISBAT) in Tunis, and later in Paris, where he continues to reside, having first undertaken a Masters in Fine Arts and Art Sciences, followed by his doctoral research at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne in Paris. Group and solo presentations from 2013 include Politiques 2 at the Centre National d'Art Vivant de Tunis in Tunis; and Les soirées Dessinées at Talmart Gallery in Paris; while in 2014, he was selected for Dak’Art, the 11th Biennial of the Contemporary African Art in Dakar, Senegal. Chamekh was selected for participation in the 56th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, titled All the World's Futures.
