Johnson, Claire
Born 1986 in South Africa
Lives and works in Cape Town, South Africa
Claire Johnson lives and works in Cape Town, where she graduated from Michaelis School of Fine Art. Johnson’s work as a solo artist and as part of the creative studio Hoick, which she co-founded, is underpinned by investigation into the relationships that form between humans and objects. Her work consists of paintings and fabric works featuring compositions of ostensibly abstract forms; each work a representation of an object, personal or found, reduced to unpredictable two-dimensional shapes, questioning the ability of the object to speak for itself once removed from its original context. Johnson has been part of numerous group shows and fairs, notably the FNB Joburg Art Fair and the Investec Cape Town Art Fair.
