Lives and works in Cairo, Egypt
Samir Fouad’s work can be characterised by its fascination with the physics of movement in everyday life. Belly dancers, carnival swings, musicians and portraits of young Egyptian women twist and turn in motion on his canvases. Fouad articulates movement with quick strokes and scratching the canvas surface, making marks carefully etched into the oil paint which he applies generously. In the early 2000s, Fouad dedicated himself fully to painting upon retiring from a career in IT in Egypt. He received artistic training under the tutelage of the late Egyptian artist Hassan Soliman. He has exhibited his work locally and internationally and represented Egypt in several biennales as well as international symposiums. His work has been displayed in Dubai, Italy, Kenya, Kuwait, Lebanon, Russia, Saudi Arabia, the United States and the United Kingdom.
