Derné, Nicolas
Born 1980 in Martinique
Lives and works in Fort-de-France, Martinique
Nicolas Derné's artistic approach is based on the use of photographic print, both as an imprint of a continuous creation, and as a material that reintegrates the creative process of a new photograph. Through the accumulation of materials, shapes, and colors, Derné creates a new image that he calls "residual photography," in which every stage of his creative process is frozen by photography. Derné refers to his resulting images as "residual images," because their original meanings have been diverted in order to create ghost images caused by the retinal persistence of a strong impression.
