Demarco Mosby
Lives & Works in New York, NY, United States
Demarco Mosby’s paintings seek to illustrate the emotional scars accumulated on the day to day. Rather than chronicling the moments of significance in our lives, the artist portrays the frequent weighty decisions, responsibilities and duties that affect our lives as individuals and sometimes as communities. The artist refers to his idiosyncratic form of storytelling as ‘grand narrative,’ offering an alternative to classic tales of heroism and tragedy that can oftentimes be artificial and unrelatable.  Mosby’s practice incorporates mixed media elements like asphalt, sand and glue to echo the density of his subject matter. His preferred palette, which largely comprises earth tones includes hues like burnt umber, deep navy, and rich terracotta, to instill a grounded tone despite his surreal, fantastical scenes. Demarco Mosby will be presented by Luce Gallery.
