Cissé, Soly
Born 1969 in Dakar, Senegal
Lives and works in Dakar, Senegal
Soly Cisséʼs spontaneous painterly movements, textured accents and neo-expressionistic techniques form depictions reflective of the dissolution of society’s moral thresholds and shifts attributable to globalization. Shapeless human characters distort into anthropomorphic shadows of the other-self; creating the layered configuration of Cisséʼs mythical visions. Cissé work has been exhibited in internationally renowned institutions and biennales including, among others, Musée Dapper, Paris; Palais de Chaillot, Paris; Mariane Ibrahim Gallery, Seattle; Musée des Arts Derniers, Paris and Dak'Art - Biennale de l'Art Africain Contemporain, Dakar. His work is included in several collections such as the Museo Sa Bassa Blanca, Mallorca and Black Rock, Dakar. He also features in the book African Artists that will be published by Phaidon Press this fall 2021.
