Founded in 1992 Primo Marella Gallery has always been committed to the promotion and documentation of artists and movements emerging from territories beyond the Western panorama, always with the precise goal to pioneer in the analysis of such complex and constantly evolving art scenes. 1-54 Art Fair gives the opportunity to showcase the rich oeuvre of three artists (Abdoulaye Konaté, Joël Andrianomearisoa and Ghizlane Sahli) who are highly representative of both the gallery recent program and – to a wider extent – the debate around contemporary art from Africa. Each artist is distinguished by the diverse and complex relationships that run through their varied geographical, political, and gendered narratives. They were all rewarded with institutional attentions that are most of the time crucial in any artist career: Konaté and Andrianomearisoa have been shortlisted for the previous and last Venice Biennale editions (Central Exhibition: Viva Arte Viva, the first and the Madagascar National Pavilion, the latter) whilst Sahli has been shortlisted to join the prestigious collection of Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
