Founded in 1946, GVCC is the oldest gallery in Morocco. The collective memory of the country’s visual arts is imprinted here; GVCC is a key institution in Morocco’s cultural landscape. Decades ago, GVCC built its reputation upon being the first gallery to represent painters such as José Cruz Herrera, Jacques Majorelle, Jean-Gaston Mantel and Henri Pontoy, artists that are today highly sought-after at international auction.
The year 2008 marked a turning point, with Anne-Laurence Sowan acquiring the gallery. GVCC has premiered the work of many renowned Moroccan artists who have become true references in the world of art, including Farid Belkahia, Jilali Gharbaoui, Hassan El Glaoui, Fatema Hassan, Saad Hassani and Abdelkébir Rabi. The gallery is also firmly committed to presenting the work of emerging and established artists. GVCC is the partner of a rising generation of Moroccan artists such as Yassine Kahled, Soufiane Idrissi, Mehdi-Georges Lahlou, Mehdi Melhaoui, Houda Terjuman, as well as international artists such as Zoulikha Bouabdellah, Meriem Bouderbala, Gastineau Massamba and Emo de Medeiros.
