Galerie Vallois Modern and Contemporary Art was founded by Robert Vallois in 1983. In 2012, the gallery began to endorse the work of a younger generation of West African visual artists, with a focus on Beninese artists such as Dominique Zinkpè, Gérard Quenum, Tchif and King Houndekpinkou. With the desire to further support and promote emerging Beninese practitioners, in 2014 Galerie Vallois with the Collective of Saint-Germain-des-Près art dealers funded the construction of le Centre, a multidisciplinary space vested in contemporary art in Cotonou, Benin. In five years, Galerie Vallois has become one of the key players championing contemporary artistic creation in Benin.
