Victor Henrique Fidelis is a Brazilian painter and illustrator. Self- taught, he has been developing his language and technique in painting and drawing over recent years. His work considers the issue of Afro-Brazilian bodies between the ideas of freedom and representation in the History of Brazilian Art. In his words: “portraying black bodies is an exercise of self-knowledge. The faces and shapes drawn show my closest references from the memory of the bodies that surround me. To understand what makes us a group, the possibilities and varieties among such forms, the textures, colours, peculiarities and common features is to reflect what narratives were imposed on us, so that new places can be created”.
