Honda Terjuman’s work revels in the stressful and painful processes of achieving stability in the midst of turbulent personal and political situations. In her sculptural objects, the symbol of the tree emerges as both a biological system and a metaphor that suggests the multi-rooted influences of love and abandonment. The tree is on the surface, with roots extending in several directions rather than pretending to be anchored in the depths of the earth. The sculpture has a founding function in space. It becomes a place of life and identity negotiation process in the confrontation with alterity. Terjuman’s practice acknowledges the hyper connectivity and heterogeneity of the artist’s own de-territorialised world.
Her work has been exhibited around the world including Marrakech, Lisbon, Dubai, Barcelona, Tunis, Berlin, Madrid and Paris.
