Lives and works in New York, USA

Andres Serrano, “Black Dolls - Sandy” Vintage Rag Doll (Infamous), 2019, Pigment print, back-mounted on dibond, wooden frame, 152,4 x 127 cm, 165,8 x 140,9 cm (framed), Edition of 3 + 2 AP. Courtesy Galerie Nathalie Obadia Paris/Brussels

Known for his large-scale photographs, Andres Serrano has developed a practice that is both provocative and fascinating in nature. For more than 30 years, Serrano has cast a critical and often ironic eye on the contradictions inherent to modern life, capturing the spirit of our era.

The artist tackles fundamental issues such as politics and society through series like The Klan (1990), Nomads (1990), America (2002), Cuba (2012), Resident of New York (2014), and Denizens of Brussels (2015), religion with Immersions (1987-1990), The Church (1991), Holy Works (2011), Jerusalem (2014); living beings (Bodily Fluids, 1990), sex (History of Sex, 1995-1996) and death (The Morgue, in 1992). Recent exhibitions include Show Your Wound, Dom Museum Wien, Vienna (2019) and Erwin Olaf – Retrospective, Fotomuseum Den Haag, The Hague (2019).
