Ghizlane Sahli considers the transformation of waste materials, their textures and their universality. She collects waste plastic bottles and embroiders them using silk with the help of local artisan women. Ghizlane studies the transition between two conditions, the tiny interval between the before and the after, the bridge which connects material to mind, order to chaos, accumulation to dispersion. Sahli predominantly makes alveolus-shaped forms from the tops of used bottles, covered with silk thread. These are then imagined as human cells that create larger, more recognisable forms within the female body.
Selected solo exhibitions include Histoires de Tripes, David Bloch Gallery, Marrakech (2018) and Genesis, Institut Français, Rabat (2017). Over the years, Sahli’s work has also been included in The Black Sphinx II, Primo Marella Gallery, Milan (2018); The Body, Abla Ababou Gallery, Rabat (2018) and L’or, Musée des civilisations de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée, Marseille (2018).
