M’barek BouhchichiL’Atelier 21

Born 1975 in Akka, Morocco
Lives and works in Tahanaout, Morocco

M'barek Bouhchichi, Untitled, 2022, Mixed media on rubber, 78 x 66 cm. Courtesy L'Atelier 21 Art Gallery, Casablanca.

M’barek Bouhchichi has been teaching art since the mid-1990s in Tiznit, and today in Tahanaout. His beginnings as an abstract painter are the prefigurations of his current work. His works propose a double personal reading — that of the artist, as well as that guided by thoughts open to sharing and interpretation. Through painting, drawing, installation, and video, Bouhchichi formulates modes of expression that start from the discourse of the individual towards broader social, poetic, and historical systems. The red thread of his works refers to an individual speech which allows a rewriting of oneself, signifying the back and forth between the idea and the experience of the work.

His works have included in major institutional collections, including the Musée National d’Art Moderne du Centre Georges Pompidou (France), the Musée d’Art Contemporain Africain Al Maaden (Morocco), the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion (Morocco), and the Diana Holding Group (Morocco).
