Houston Maludi paints in the Cubist style, taking much inspiration from canonical masters George Braque and Pablo Picasso. Within this formalism, Maludi works to find his own approach to geometric shapes and collage, having coined his own style: ‘monochromique cubisme symbiotique quantique’ (monochromatic cubism, symbiotic quantum). Maludi studied painting at the Académie des Beaux-Arts (ABA) in Kinshasa, graduating in 1997.

His works are predominately rendered as intricate, monochromatic line paintings and drawings that map out psychological cartographies of life in Kinshasa. Desiring simplicity and a strong contrast within his works, Maludi has reduced his tonal palate to black and white. According to Maludi, this emphasises the work’s distinct geometry and thus reveals a formalistic truth. Maludi’s keen eye to detail has earned him much interest nationally and internationally. His works have been exhibited locally in Kinshasa, as well as further afield.
