Lives and works in Paris, France

Since 1996, Majida Khattari has designed fashion objects and clothing sculptures that serve as manifestations of her interrogations and reflections on the condition of women in the Arab world. In parallel, Khattari works in the mediums of photography, installations, videos and films. In her photographic work, Khattari recreates the central clichés that dominate orientalist painting. By reconsidering the scenery inspired by orientalist paintings, Khattari considers various characters’ positioning in contemporary contexts.

While she started studying art in Casablanca in 1989, Khattari graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1995. She has held numerous solos and collective exhibitions throughout Casablanca, Paris, Oxford, London, Tokyo, Dusseldorf and New York. Her pieces can be found in Centre Pompidou, Paris; SAM Project Foundation, Paris; Louis Vuitton Foundation, Paris; Salsali Museum, Dubai; and the Contemporary Art Museum, Thessaloniki.
