Aboudia’s work is concerned with the youth of his native Abidjan, and their unwavering optimism in the face of structural injustice. Using his trademark ‘nouchi’ technique, inspired by the local graffiti and street art scene, Aboudia’s childlike figures are painted with ominous smiles against heavily layered backgrounds, symbolising their strength and resilience.
His work is part of Saatchi Gallery, London; Nevada Museum of Art, Reno; The Jean Pigozzi Collection, Geneva; Tiroche DeLeon Collection, Tel Aviv. Recent exhibitions include Masquerade, Galerie Cécile Fakhoury, Dakar (2019); Kubatana, Vestfossen Kunstlaboratorium, Vestfossen (2019); Môgô Dynasty, Galerie Cécile Fakhoury, Abidjan (2016) and Chap Chap, Art Twenty One, Lagos (2016).
