Miracle, Marcel
Born 1957 in Moramanga, Madagascar
Lives and works in Lausanne, Switzerland and South Tunisia
Marcel Miracle is a geologist by training, having spent many years conducting research in Africa. He later moved to Switzerland where he now works as a schoolteacher. With a career now spanning more than 20 years, Marcel Miracle -whose name is an anagram for arc-en-ciel, the French word for rainbow- has now made thousands of small drawings with ink and colour pencils. His practice is inspired by Kant’s idea of transcendental idealism, negating the possibility of a conscious subject to transcend oneself when considering external objects. Notable exhibitions include Cahiers écrits, dessinés, inimprimés, Fondation Bodmer, Geneva (2018); African Passions, Palácio Cadaval, Évora (2018) and La Tempête, Centre Régional d'Art Contemporain à Sète, Sète (2017).
