Vincent Michéa’s visual aesthetic urges us to explore the shared influences and fertile crossings in our shared social and cultural history. His works are infused with references to popular culture, from tributes to Senegalese filmmaker Ousmane Sembène and Italian actor Marcello Mastroianni to mbalax, a popular dance music. Michéa is a graduate of the École Supérieure d’Arts Graphiques et d’Architecture Intérieure in Paris. In 1986 he immigrated to Dakar to work as a graphic designer and had his first exhibition at the National Gallery of Senegal. Following this, he worked as an assistant to Roman Cieślewicz until 1991. Recent exhibitions include L'Esprit du large, Galerie Cécile Fakhoury (Dakar and Abidjan, 2019); Les fantômes de l'Afrique - Siriel Rellik, Galerie Cécile Fakhoury, Dakar (2018); Qu'il est loin mon pays, Fondation Blachère, Apt (2016) and Pangaea: New Art form Africa and Latin America, Saatchi Gallery, London (2014).
