Be, Alun
Born 1981 in Dakar, Senegal
Lives and works between Senegal, France, and the USA
Through his photography, Alun Be aims to change the public perception of Africa. Using his architecture training and a unique international outlook gleaned from a childhood spent between Europe, West Africa and the United States, Be dedicates his practice to conveying an empowered image of his subjects. In his Edification series, which gained international acclaim, he photographs children draped in heroic capes while wearing VR goggles. This juxtaposition of technology on seemingly barren, coastal backgrounds highlights Africa’s potential as a hub for technology. Be graduated with a double Major in Architecture and Art at the University of Miami, USA. His works form part of private and public collections worldwide, such as The United Nations, the Museum of Contemporary Photography of Chicago and the Société Générale bank.
